You can do it without test equipment but it will take longer. The following has been posted here (by me) before. If you have more questions let me know. dmt ----- The 5620 (and 630) mouse wiring is as follows: pin use 1 +5 VDC 2 Y2 3 Y1 4 X2 5 X1 6 Ground 7 Middle switch 8 Right switch 9 Left switch Pins 2-5, 7-9 are normally high (+5 VDC). Pressing a switch lowers the corresponding pin to Ground. A common complaint with the RED mouse is that it seems dead (or sluggish) in one or both directions. The mouse has two outputs for each direction (x and y); each of the four outputs has an adjustment. The signals from each led/photocell connect to a Schmitt trigger. A control allows the adjustment of each Schmitt trigger input level. A crude but effective way to do this is to remove the RED mouse cover and make small adjustments to the corresponding controls until the mouse works again. With the mouse in the position shown below, the X adjustments affect the horizontal motion on the screen and the Y adjustments affect the vertical. A logic probe may also be used to verify the photocell signal and Schmitt trigger outputs (See below). Please excuse the crude graphics. TOP VIEW (component side) MB . . . . LB. .RB . . . . . . .
